Paul Woolford ‘MDMA/ Orbit’ (Hotflush)

Quite frankly if you haven’t heard this record yet you’ve simply been dancing in the wrong places. Paul Woolford has delivered a track every bit as large as his monsters in the past, from the bleep ridden wig out of ‘Erotic Discourse’ up to 2013’s piano stomper ‘Untitled’, the latter released on Scuba’s Hotflush where he returns too with this double header. ‘MDMA’ is as euphoric as the far from subtle moniker suggests, riding the same lavish old school touches as it’s predecessor with the chords and piano touches that reak of Vicks. As much fun as a midweek session in Doncaster in 1992 with the the white gloves crew, it’s big and brash with a layer of subtlety and sophistication underneath.

Somehow ‘Orbit’ has been classed as the A side, but for all the rattling warehouse growl it boasts it’s understandably in the shadow of the serotonin blast of the flip, despite being a very good piece of music. All in all a glorious package.
