A year on from their acclaimed debut ‘123 Yeah Yeah’, the duo return to Freerange for the equally seductive ‘Give You Up’. Willie Graff and Tuccillo should be fairly familiar to those in the know through previous releases on Liebe Detail, Drumpoet Community and Wave. Using a riff lifted from ‘Just Can’t Give You Up’, Mystic Merlin’s jazz-funk standard from three decades ago, the partnership is an amazingly simple one with the subtle vocal underpinned with the funky ’80s groove. Chez Damier offers a slight less organic and more electronic interpretation which offers an interesting and equally edify twist, but the seductive charm of the original has enough warmth to melt away the winter snows.
