If you like true soul grooves with a J Dilla sensibility then Yung Bae will tick a lot of boxes for you. Here you get two short tracks that feel longer in the listening journey you travel in your head than in their actual playing time and that is no mean feat. ‘How I Feel About You’ is a blissful, female vocalled, undress to impress, silky soul loop with that warped record and fluff on the needle filtering and flanging that makes it ten times more delicious to slink and shimmy to. ‘Something New’ has fleeting reflections of ‘Feel Like Making Love’ and a sneaky time signature drag that feels like an old 7” spinning on a turntable where the belt drive is just about to give up the ghost. So clever – theses could be written on how well he’s put these two tracks together. What’s even more impressive is that he’s just 18 years old. I see great things in this future.
