TRENTEMØLLER – FIXION – IN MY ROOM

Andreas Trentemøller has made some fine albums in his time, but ‘Fixion’ definitely moves him up a level. It is still representative of his dark, sleek sound, brilliant for soundtracks and nocturnal listening, but there is an extra bit of steel here that works really well. This is most obviously effective in the vocal tracks, where Jehnny Beth of Savages and Marie Fisker are especially good. The former makes ‘River In Me’ a cracking single, but ‘Redefine’, ‘Shadows Fall’ and ‘Spinning’ are excellent too. Better even than these is ‘My Conviction’, where the percussion sounds like someone beating a particularly massive metal object. Powerful stuff – and signs that Trentemøller keeps on getting better.
