Fantasy Island – the free monthly parties which launches on Friday 30th October – brought to you by Camino and Richard Norris is chuffed to confirm their New Year’s Eve line-up. Waving goodbye to 2009 and bringing in 2010 will be the Latin Dub Sound System live, DJ Cosmo and resident DJ Richard Norris.
On New Year’s Eve, Fantasy Island will bring you the very best in Balearic beats at noted Spanish bar and restaurant Camino in the heart of King’s Cross. They’ll also be outdoor activities in their heated courtyard too.
The Latin Dub Sound System are an unforgettable live music experience who explore big bass lines and carnival rhythms from Colombia to Notting Hill.
Absolutely perfect for a Balearic NYE party, they interact with the audience and deliver an unmissable live music experience. Artists they have worked with include Rodney P and Benjamin Zephaniah – to name a few.
The Loft and Body and Soul resident DJ Cosmo will be playing a special Balearic set. Since moving from New York to London back in 2000, Cosmo has continued to build a reputation as a DJ of some note with the all encompassing New York mindset of DJing with no limits, playing good music – no matter the style or genre – as long as it works on the floor and not being a slave to the beat.
Cosmo is also part of the promotion team that has established the quarterly London Loft parties with David Mancuso. When she lived in New York she was one of few people ever to have the privilege to play regularly at The Loft, she was also one of the few guests to play at the seminal Body & Soul nights alongside Joe Claussell, Francois K, and Danny Krivit. Not content with promoting, DJing and hosting radio shows that are syndicated across the globe, Cosmo also runs her own record label Bitches Brew and has been producing some superb records under the Wild Rumpus alias, which have also featured mixes from Rub n Tug and Prins Thomas.
Richard Norris was first journalist to write about the Balearic scene in the UK music press, when NME ran his article on Ibiza in the late eighties. He was also in The Grid, who released a string of hit dance singles including the million-selling ‘Swamp Thing’. Richard has DJ’ed in Ibiza at Manumission, Space, the Underground, Manumission Motel and the Rock Bar. He was a panellist at 2008 and 2009’s Ibiza International Music Conference, regularly DJs around Europe, and records with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, and as a solo artist as The Time and Space Machine (Tirk Records). The Grid’s ‘Floatation’ – a Balearic classic – will soon be re-released on New State.
There will be a free 11 track promo CD ‘Viva Camino Vol 3: Fantasy Island; 100% Balearic Beats’, compiled by Richard, available free for the first 100 people on the night. The CD features tracks from the cream of the new European Balearic scene.
