Birthday time at Mulletover towers…

Welcome to DMCWORLD young man. You are quite candid about your upbringing, saying your family loved a party and a drink and that had a profound effect on you. Aged 19 off to clubland you ventured visiting hardcore drum n’ bass events – what were the clubs and DJs that helped you learn the disco ropes?

“The clubs that really made gave me an insight to London life and late nights were Elavation, Divine (house night), AWOL and Peach and The Camden Palace. I was a very young looking white kid raving which was mental thinking about it, back then they were proper raves with white gloves and whistles.”

Mulletover began just at the right time. 2004 was when the East end of London was just being discovered and now all these years later you’re celebrating the 8th Birthday. With the fragmentation of the super club at the turn of the decade (thank god), was the warehouse the only option to keep London flying in your opinion?

“I think it was at the time people wanted something different. When we started the club scene in London hadn’t fragmented too much and most of the clubs that built London clubbing were still operating like Turnmills, The Cross, Canvas, The Key and The End. So in the beginning it was something interesting and different, then when the demise of the cubs came all of sudden what we were doing becomes the norm, people didn’t have venues and therefore wanted to have a go a doing warehouse parties. The scene now in London has become saturated with ‘secret location events’, there are no longer that exciting.”

A marvellous looking birthday coming our way in April – who are you most excited about checking out?

“Carl Craig for sure.”

How easy have the authorities been in town with the events?

“Fairly easy to be honest, now that temporary event notices can be applied for its legal so the authorities can’t complain!”

What have been your own highlights from these most excellent parties in London?

“Most definitely our Halloween events, our stand alone forest parties and the parties in Ibiza,”

To persue your DJing career you gave up a full time job and started to do the bar circuit scraping a living for 2 years – how often did you feel like chucking it in?

“Never! I was having such a good time and meeting loads or new people so chucking it in never crossed my mind.”

What has 2012 got in store for us all from your beloved Murmur label?

“My first EP for 3 years is about to drop on nofitstate, mulletover compilation in April, a wicked EP from some lovely guys who call themselves Sonogama which includes remixes from myself and Ryan Elliot and a new signing called Detroit Swindle coming on murmur-? Last year murmur’s release schedule wasn’t too heavy, but this year I’m hoping to pick things up again.”

You have also taken the Mulletover brand into the countryside, taking over areas at festivals for the likes of Glade, Lovebox and the Garden Festival – what has been the best festival story you’ve experienced?

“They’ve all been great but Lovebox has always been special when we’ve done it. Story wise I think the feral rave at the Garden Festival was something off the hook, I’d a few hours to relive the memory.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

“Check…http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/geddes/top10?chart=99702

Who are the DJs you are yet to get your hands on for your parties?

“I’d love Cassy to come back and DJ Harvey.”

What is planned for the rest of 2012 for Mulletover and your Nofitstate events…

“I have nofitstate on in two weeks with MCDE and tINI, then nothing for the summer for nofitstate. We have our mulletover birthday in April with an amazing line-up, after whic one more party for 2012, our Halloween bash which will be totally amazing.”
