Bringing glam to the dancefloor (and yet with much radio potential) ‘My Egyptian Lover’ is a sharp electro-funk number that seduces from the word go, not least for borrowing the chords of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Rock Your Body’, a melodic progression that’s now clearly engrained in people’s subconscious. Delivering here his biggest effort since the Prince cover that introduced him to the world a few years back, the Space Cowboy has come up with a valid European answer to the US urban sound that’s so prominent these days. There’s a whole bunch of variations from the likes of Paul Jackson, Rogerseventytwo, Loose Cannons and Ben Macklin but none truly manage to challenge the Cowboy’s own vision(s).
