Okay here it is, good to go…
Lee Alfred – Rocking-Poppin Full Tilting
I’ve been pretty obsessed with that Midland record Final Credits since it came out and I’m sure I’d heard that sample before. This is when I discovered Rocking-Poppin Full Tilting and it’s been on repeat ever since.
Hubbabubbaklubb – Mopedbart
I looked at the translation of the lyrics and discovered its about riding a moped with a moustache. To be honest I’m totally game for that if it’s got a bass line like this to soundtrack it. Becoming a bit of pre/during/post set staple.
Madlib The Beat Konducta – Yo Yo Affair (feat. Frezna)
Anything this man does is gold, its smoother than that 5am White Russian.
Roisin Murphy – Ancora Ancora Ancora (Severino & Nico De Ceglia Remix)
Roisin + Italian = Total dream. Severino is hands down one of my favourite people and DJ’s and when him and the equally marvellous Nico De Ceglia get together and make this absolute chugger of a remix I’m sold. DJ Harvey drops this little treat mid set and your brain falls out of your face and you just twirl.
Made in U.S.A. – Shake Your Body
True chiffon disco… floaty chugger with a vocal to screech along to. Gotta keep it light, nothing miserable back at mine.
Zikomo – Fly Love (Love is King)
Afters mixed with a bit of Sade makes that vodka and tonic without ice almost delicious. This record will get you a sly side eye then when those drums sneak a total wave of head nodding will ensue.
T.J. Stone – She’s Gotta Have It
Is there anything better than 70’s porno records? Especially the Deep Throat soundtrack???
The answer’s no… After party of dreams… yellow lensed aviators and a mock crystal tumbler, one huge ice cube and a scotch.
George Michael – Too Funky
No explanation needed.
Letherette – Blad
Discovered this track on the king of the bubblers, Gilles Peterson’s electronic Brownswood compilations. I could have filled all 10 tracks from just one of these albums.
Nightmares on Wax – You Wish
That track you put on for the stride of pride or sideways crab shuffle into the uber eagerly waiting outside to take you actually home. It’s delightfully smug and the perfect ending.
London based DJ/producer Joshua James, today announces his debut release, and shares the track ‘Bang’. The double A side single, ‘Bang/ Flux, will be released on his new label, ‘Three Triple Two’, on 17th June 2017.
Joshua has been quietly and consistently carving out a name for himself, as a resident DJ on the London underground over the last few years. As a solid selector and purveyor of all things house and techno, he has made his mark at queer, cult night Savage. Lucy Fizz, resident dancer at Savage, stars in the video for ‘Flux’. Following Joshua’s Room 2 takeover at XOYO, during Heidi’s ‘Jackathon’ residency in 2016, he returned in April this year, to the newly refurbished Room 2, to play all night long for The Black Madonna’s ‘We Still Believe’ residency.
Alongside his residencies, Joshua has been in the studio, remixing artists including Beth Ditto, Nimmo, Klyne, KDA, Boxed In, The Very Best, Rozi Plain and London Grammar as well as working on his own original productions.
‘Bang’, which is available to stream now, is a punchy, 4/4 filled workout, merging in snappy hi-hats with shimmering synth lines and addictive grooves. On the flip is ‘Flux’, taking things in a deeper direction, chugging undertows sitting aside funky breakdowns and multi-colour melodies. The tracks have already gathered tastemaker club and radio support from DJs including Jacques Renault, Nicole Moudaber, Shadow Child (Rinse) Boris Dlugosch, Moodymanc, Jason Bentley (KCRW) and Horse Meat Disco.
He’s the resident of Savage, queer club night @ The Metropolis in Hackney and support for The Black Madonna’s residency at XOYO.
