Back To Mine with Integral Bread

The Sevilla (Spain) based artist, Nacho Vicente Vargas, has been a fixture on the Spanish electronic scene for a while now, launching his Integral Bread moniker back in 1995, creating his own path, not sticking to one genre but experimenting with different styles to finally define his own unique style as embodied by this latest musical endeavour, his debut artist album, titled ‘We Die To Live’ (Univack Records). His music joins the dots between deep techno, electronic experimentation and melody rich grooves with a progressive attitude, and is supported by the likes of Cristian Varela, Nick Muir, Eelke Kleijn, Charlie May, amongst may others. With such a healthy dose of musical diversity running through his veins, it was inevitable that Nacho would make some very interesting ‘Back To Mine’ selections…

Massive Attack – Butterfly Caught

Massive Attack is one of my favourite bands. I love all their albums and tracks and it is almost impossible to pick out one of them as they have created so much amazing music. But, I am always drawn to ‘Butterfly Caught’ from their 2003 album ‘100th Window’, with its dark atmosphere, deep and mental voices and psy-Arabian vibes.

Michael Jackson – Off the Wall

No words are really needed for this artist. I was only five years old when I fell in love with his music, dancing, and live shows. So, I have chosen the title track from his 1979 debut solo album. I have always loved the funky and disco soul of this track. This was the first album that featured Jackson’s collaborations with Quincy Jones and it will always be one of the best albums ever, for me.

Aphex Twin – Windowlicker

All the world knows that Mr. Richard D. James is a genius. It is no surprise that one of his works appears here, ‘Windowlicker’ is a music masterpiece, and the video (directed by Chris Cunningham) is a lovely madness. The French phrase for “window-shopping” is “faire du lèche-vitrine”, which can be literally translated as “licking the windows”.

Holden – Renata

I’ve always been a fan of James Holden. Since the mid-noughties, his sound and his Border Community label enlightened me. He is one of those artists who know how to develop healthily, and today he’s at a highly mature point of artistic quality. This track is one of the highlights from his 2013 album, “The Inheritors”.

Underworld – Pearl’s Girl

Orbital, Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Underworld were bands that had a big influence on me when I started composing electronic music. I could have chosen any of their works here, but I’ve always had a special feeling for this track.

Héroes del Silencio – La Sirena Varada

Héroes del Silencio was one of my most loved bands through my adolescence. They were a Spanish pop-rock band that revolutionized the scene of the 90’s in Spain. They also had great success in South America and other countries like Germany.

Radiohead – Everything In Its Right Place

There is not much to say here. Any time is a good time to listen to Radiohead. This song is awesome, as is its title.

Paco de Lucía – Entre dos aguas

The recently deceased Paco de Lucia was the best guitarist of all time. My grandfather was a great master of Spanish guitar too, and since I was a baby, I listened to flamenco in my home. This instrumental piece called “Entre dos aguas” is one of his most famous works. I also recommend listening to the work he did with the legendary singer Camarón.

Hybrid – Finished Symphony

In my early years I produced breaks music. Between 1995 and 2005 – breakbeat, big beat, electro-breaks – were all very influential for me. Hybrid were always a reference point. Amazing breakbeats, progressive sounds, and symphonic arrangements, and such high quality!! This was their first single from their debut “Wide Angle” album.
