Sonique – It Feels So Good
This has to be one of my favourite tracks of all time. The vocal is so euphoric – every time I hear it come on it brings me way back to early 2000s era. What a time.
Jonwayne – The Come Up Pt. 2
This is a track I discovered in university, during a local night out. The instrumental is so simple but so hard and Jonwayne’s well-executed vocal takes absolutely nothing away from it. This tune will always remind me of my years at uni, and one of my now best friends who discovered the song with me.
Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers
Another absolute anthem. I heard this song on holiday in Turkey some years back now and have been obsessed ever since. That was one of my favourite holidays to date and all of the beautiful memories are attached to this tune. I tend to do this a lot, which is probably why music makes me feel very emotional!
Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie ft. Wyclef Jean
Shakira is one of my favourite artists, period. I have a massive respect for her being someone who came up before the social media age however still has racked up an unbelievable amount of views on all of her videos. But that’s irrelevant really; this song evokes a sense of nostalgia for me definitely – my aunt showed me her, and all of Shakira’s music will always have a place in my heart. I love that latin pop/bachata sound.
Rammriddlz – Bodmon
This guy’s just a g. This tune especially captures Ramm’s personality and sound. After hearing this song I quickly did some research on him and soon discovered that he’s just a simple guy doing what he loves and having a great time while he’s at it. Which is really what it’s all about. Mad respect to the guy and what a tune this is!
Jalen Santoy – Foreplay
‘Foreplay’ is my most recent discovery and I actually found this through Spotify’s weekly discovery playlist. The sample on the instrumental is killer and instantly has the “oh shit I know this” factor! It’s a beautiful take on the original and the vocalist does a great job of riding the beat with a laid back flow without overdoing it. The hook is great too!
Dizzy Wright – Killem With Kindness
Another instrumental with a dope sample. Dizzy Wright has been an artist I’ve followed for a few years now and he’s still managing to grow on me with every album. This is from the album ‘The Golden Age’ and is probably my favourite track from him to date.
Dusky – Careless
When I was first getting into house music, I remember this being the track that was stuck in my head for literally months. I’m a huge fan of chopped, vibey vocals and this track is just the perfect demonstration of exactly that. Dusky are a massive inspiration of mine as it is but this track is pure bliss.
The Weeknd – Loft Music
One of my all time favourite artists without a shadow of a doubt. I love his current stuff too, however I gave him a chance when his older were coming out and doing the rounds. He’s a master of his art and literally one of the greatest to ever do it. ‘Loft Music’ is always on playing after a night out – baby making music. Come on!
Young Thug – Just Might Be
Thug is another one of my favourites. Anyone who listens to him will tell you that ‘Just Might Be’ is a track where he successfully explores a slightly different flow (especially in the hook), whilst maintaining his usual charisma and energy on the mic. No matter what people will say, I’ve always been able to see and appreciate this guy’s genius.
