Back To Mine with Rich Wakley

Here are my top 11 ‘Back To Mine’ tracks for your aural pleasure. I’ve tried to cover all bases of my musical influences with my selection. Some of them I have grown up with, some of them capture a particular emotion or time from my life, and finally I finished off with some of my more electronic Favourites.

1. Orbital – Halcyon On and On

Orbital’s pinnacle track for me. Irresistible 2 minute introduction and just an epic journey throughout. This is 10mins of pure bliss. If I could fly, this track would express my emotions perfectly.

Orbital - Halcyon On and On

2. The XX – Crystalized

Difficult to chose between this and ‘Intro’ from an incredible album. I went for this in the end for it’s pure emotion and harmonious duet from the lead singers. It creates this amazing feeling of intimacy and sadness, which really stays with you.

3.  The Cure – Lullaby

An absolute classic from legendary band ‘The Cure’. Instantly recognisable guitars and dark strings. Once you hear this track, you will never forget it and it will change you forever. Timeless.

The Cure - Lullaby

4. Land Of Talk – It’s Okay

A sad song that always brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. Both melancholic, poignant and hauntingly beautiful! The video is a piece of art in itself but when you watch the two together it is truly inspiring and absorbing.

5. The Eagles – Hotel California (Acoustic Version with Eric Clapton)

A track that always reminds me of my childhood spent listening to The Eagles on my Dad’s ridiculously huge hi-fi stack, complete with vinyl turntable top.

6. Dzihan and Kamien – Homebass

The ultimate chill-out track. One to listen to while you are sat in front of a beautiful sunset. This track completely captures the vibe of both Café Mambo and Café Del Mar in Ibiza.

dZihan and Kamien - Homebase

7. Ian Brown – Fear (Unkle Remix)

An emotional track not only for it’s lyrical play on the meaning of the word ‘Fear’ but it’s epic pads throughout. Purely stunning remix from UNKLE.

Ian Brown - F.E.A.R. (U.N.K.L.E. Remix)

8. Ellen Alien & Apparat – Do Not Break

For an electronic album ‘Orchestra of Bubbles’ was absolutely unique. It includes the kind of tracks you hear that you couldn’t possibly ever  pigeon hole. The whole album was so experimental. Do Not Break is my choice track. I can imagine getting lost to this in one of those water immersion tanks. Bucket List!

9. Lovebirds feat. Stee Downes – Want You In My Soul (Original Mix)

Possibly my favourite track of all time. Everything in it is absolute perfection. Melodies, progression, drums, vocal and of course the lyrics. Completely faultless and a timeless classic.

Lovebirds - Want You In My Soul ft. Stee Downes (Original Mix)

10. Chicane – Offshore (Original Mix)

I will never forget the moment Cerillo dropped this as his last track at an insanely epic Circo Loco back in 2003. One of the most memorable and genius moments from any set I have ever heard. Took me to another level of emotion.

Chicane - Offshore (Original Mix) (HQ)

11. Kavinsky – Nightcall (Original Mix)

A unique track from an outstanding soundtrack to one of my favourite movies ‘Drive’ and an example of how to hit the nail on the head when writing for a movie soundtrack.
