Back To Mine – Ultra Nate

A personal collection for after hours grooving

CROWN ROYAL ON ICE – JILL SCOTT
“I love the way this song is written and the way Jill rides the emotion and pulls you into the sex, love and vibe of it all. This tune is always on repeat.”
HANGING ON – ACTIVE CHILD
“Lead singer and self taught harpist Patrick Grossi is absolutely genius with his melodies and soaring vocals. The layered harmonies and instrumentation on this always make me feel like I’m flying!”
TWISTED – ULTRA NATE’
“Twisted” has always been one of the favorite tracks of my songwriting career thus far. I wrote it sitting at the SSL board in a London studio with D-Influence one night. We had been working at a grueling pace and the fellas took a break to let me get on with whatever I was gonna come up with. And so the song was born. It came so fast and easy I almost couldn’t get the lyrics down fast enough. I wrote it and then we recorded the vocals that same night. Love it when a track comes together like that…”
PAPILLION (HOT BUTTERFLY) – CHAKA KHAN
“No one can spin a soulful lyric or riff like Chaka! I remember playing Rufus and Chaka Khan vinyl albums as a kid and I was always mesmerized with the resonance and range of Chaka. “Papillion” always made me feel like it was summertime and everything was gonna be alright.”
US AND THEM – PINK FLOYD
“I love the psychedelic ride this track (and the whole “Dark Side of The Moon” album) take you on. It’s an out of body experience with the various organic sounds and space noises. Very experimental and trippy…I think it appeals to that messy person in all of us.”
IS IT STILL GOOD TO YA’ – TEDDY PENDERGRASS
“The fire, demand and urgency in Teddy’s delivery of this song is pure gold. There’s tension and love in the verses as he builds to the chorus and just let’s loose!! Simple adlibs like “Yeah”! and “Yes”!! have so much power it sends chills down your spine. A
masterpiece.”
HEAR MY DEAR – MARVIN GAYE
“There is so much emotion in this song for me…you can clearly feel the pain Marvin was going through as his marriage was falling apart on the whole album but this song is the crown jewel as he gives himself over to defeat and sadness in the end. There’s brutal honesty in his writing. It was very brave to show so much pain and vulnerability.”
D2D2 – DJ DUKE
“I remember this song as the culmination of an amazing night at the club in the early days of house. By the time this record came on you where physically and emotionally spent! The lights where up by the end of the song and it was time to go home.”
SHE’S ALWAYS IN MY HEAD – PRINCE
“Prince is clearly a genius and this track is just one of the many examples of that fact. I just love his free form kind of thinking when he writes…it always makes a track more personal. The funkiness on this one just makes you wanna dance..make love or something (probably both)!”
FEEL UP – GRACE JONES
“Always innovative and distinctive Grace brings it on “Feel Up”. I used to dance to this one when I first discover clubbing! It sounded amazing on the big system and I felt like I was having an out of body experience when the dj played it. Still do…”
