Back To Mine With Yoyohoney

After hours grooving…

01. Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On
I was brought up on Marvin. Unique in this world and still so unique now he’s in heaven. Marvin is a God looking at us from above. This came out at a time when I discovered real sexuality. Before it was all Wham-bam-thank you mam and with Let’s Get it on, L.O.V.E came into it. Thats why I wrote a tune called Get it on.

02. David Bowie – Can You Hear Me
This is one of the BEST and most beautiful songs Ever. So loaded with love and pain and confusion and desire. Music does not come better than this. I grew up with and came through the whole Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust/Alladin Sane era. I was 17 and HE WAS A CHAMELEON. I even had Ziggy’s hair! He is the reason I believe you have to challenge with music.

03. DE’ANGELO – Brown Sugar
The Groove on this is the shit. This kid is mighty with this tune. Its God and the Devil taking time out to resolve their differences. If I’m going to want some, I’m going to want it to this.

04. Curtis Mayfield – Get Down
Quite simply this man is exquisite, a stellar piece of musical history. Walk the streets at night, look skywards and you can see Curtis and his train ‘a coming. You can dance the fuck out of this tune and still want more. Curtis played a huge part in my bands music.

05. Donna Summer – I Feel Love (1978)
All I can say is for a young boy like me, Donna Summer was total. She was futuristic sex and I was lost in her and utterly mesmerised. She could move like no-one had moved on heaven and earth. This tune is Dirty, sweat lust club, and started my love affair with Berlin. I remember raving senselessly to this tune. One of the very first tunes I wrote copied the riff. Heavy!

06. Marvin Gaye – I Want You
This song should NEVER end. Along with Parliament and FUNKADELIC It was the source for my band YOYOHONEY.

07. Al Green – Sha La La
This song reminds me of very happy and carefree times in my life. I discovered DUB and I would have endless sex on rotation along with this tune. I fell deeply, madly in love and was destroyed with the rejection.

08. Sade – No Ordinary Love
This girl is the real deal and this is a tune. I gave you all the love I got I gave you more than I could give I gave you love I gave you all that I have inside And you took my love, you took my love, I keep crying, I keep trying for you There’s nothing like you and I, baby. Say no more.

09. Erykah Badu – On & On
Forget all the spiritual accolades, she’s a super-blast, so funny with a beautiful soul and voice. Met with Erykah in Texas and what she does for her community and people is mighty.

10. Parliament, Funkadelic – One Nation Under A Groove
Being Black and living in the UK in an all white neighbourhood. I endured and suffered punishing racist shit so many times. However, this tune from the Atomic Dogs just oozed positivity and made me vow to never be a hater. Its a f*ck of a tune to dance to and when I heard it blew my mind. On its level ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE is raw sex and has never been touched. I can remember dancing all night to the sounds of P-FUNK. The fact that I ended up working with these guys, I still find it a blast! ATOMIC DOGS!!

Yoyohoney ‘YOYO’ will be released on April 22nd 2013 on Black Sugar Music.
