1 Sonic Youth – Sonic Nurse LP – Geffen
The best fucking album of last year. Or should that be the best sex album? Anyway, this is my favourite making-love record because it’s slow, raunchy, sleazy, dirty, sexy music…

2 Shigeru Umebayashi & others – 2046 Soundtrack
If you want drama and atmosphere with a little bit of easy listening as a sweetener then this is the one to go for. The soundtrack to my favourite film of the year so far.

3 Studio Pankow – Linienbusse – City Centre Offices
Mellow electronic music that is groovy enough to keep you going and empty enough to let you get on with what you want to do. Perfect email music.

4 Gonzales – Solo Piano – No Format
An album of simple, beautiful solo piano pieces. The sort of LP you can have on repeat because you only remember the tunes till they finish playing.

5 KLF – Chillout – KLF
The classic genre-defining chillout album from the early 90s. This  one is still a trip and was a pivotal influence on my latest album ‘Heavy Mellow’.

6 Brian Eno – Ambient 1 Music For Airports – EG
The ultimate ambient classic, this one just drifts about in the background till you almost forget it exists.

7 Zorn – All We Can Do Is Enjoy The Ride – Lux Nigra
Weird, dubby, bassy electronica that floats around and takes you off somewhere else entirely.

8 The Velvet Underground – Venus In Furs – Polydor
Er, see number one really, from the Velvet Underground and Nico album with the banana on the cover.

9 Lee Perry – Dub Triptych – Trojan
Three albums worth of classic Perry dub from the 70s. If you’ve run out of green this will get you there anyway.

10 Jori Hulkkonen – Dualizm – F Comm
Trumpets lost in delay, an uplifting soundtracky feel, with a bit of electro to pick you up in the middle. Lovely.
