DANNY ROBIN

Sex Technique – Queen of Japan
I think Queen of Japan are German – I first got to know of them through their excellent cover of Kiss’s I Was Made For Loving You which featured on the 2 Many DJs mix album. This is one of their original tracks and features the line, “I wish that you would fall in love with me, not only with my splendid sex technique” – it’s a wonderfully non-English use of the word ‘splendid’.

Self Control – Laura Brannigan
This is an Eighties track. I found it on the Grand Theft Auto soundtrack – I’m not sure if that’s cool or un-cool to admit to. I love the line “I live amongst the creatures of the night” – it satisfies the Goth in me.

Baby Got Back –
 Sir Mix A Lot
Who could argue with a track that begins “I like big butts.” I play this in my show and get the audience to booty bounce in their seats – it’s a beautiful thing.

Dancing In The Dark – Bruce Springsteen
Is this a guilty pleasure? I love it. It gives me a lump in my throat.

Mushaboom – Feist
This is from Feist’s first album. I believe she’s got a new one out in April. I could have picked any of the songs really as it’s such a lovely album – it’s what I put on when I have people round for dinner – cheery, chilled out, warm and infectious – people always ask who it is.

Over and Over – Hot Chip
I can’t stop playing this at the moment. The guitar riff from it is the theme tune to The Culture Show, which I do stuff on, so it’s firmly ingrained in my head.

Come Into My World (Fischerspooner Remix) – Kylie Minogue
What can I say? Kylie remixed by Fischerspooner. It’s a marriage made in Heaven (the gay nightclub).

My Body Is Made of Sunlight – Circulus
Circulus can best be described as Neo-Medieval Psychedelic Folk Rock. They dress in medieval clothes and play a mix of lutes and moog synthesisers. I had the privilege of playing with them on stage recently. They rock, in a psych folk way.

Irish Blood, English Heart – Morrissey
A cracking song – short and full of fantastic energy. I interviewed Moz recently, which was a thrill. I hadn’t really been a fan before then, but was converted when I saw him play live. This song set the crowd on fire.

Folsom Prison Blues – Johnny Cash
I feel I have to include a Cash track. It’s an extraordinary track. I think most men will at some point wish they had “shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die” – it’s a rites of passage thing.
