NEZZY

Following on from a release of successful remixes for the likes of Daft Punk and S-C-A-R-R, upcoming french talent NEZZY drops Snowfall, the first single out from his debut album. NEZZY’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed since his explosion onto the scene. Having previously impressed fellow French producer Coopex who in turn invited him to join him on multiple records, including Parallel Lines, Cravings, You & Me and their most recent release in 2020, Never Sleep, NEZZY has been nothing short of success in his short time on the scene. His records have been supported by Trap Nation, Chill Wave, Future Bass and even been released via NCS. What’s more, his reach didn’t stop there as superstar producer Timbaland was caught spinning NEZZY’s tune in a livestream, complimenting him out loud.  Set for a massive year in 2021, NEZZY has plenty more releases up his sleeves including records via Armada and Soave, and a debut album that comes out on his 20th birthday. This is set to offer the ultimate trip for the senses; think aerial pop tracks influenced by Kasbo and Odesza – featuring interwoven interludes between each record  to form a chapter of NEZZY’s story. DMCWORLD dive in for a world exclusive…

Hey NEZZY! Thanks for joining us here at DMC, for those who don’t know you can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m 19 years old and music has been my favorite hobby since I’m a kid. Music instruments have always caught my attention, I have a creative fiber and it appears that music is the best way I’ve found to express myself.

Where in the world are you chatting to us from?

I’m based in France, not too far away from Lyon.

How did your career come about?

I’ve always listened to different genres of music, looking for new things and innovative artists. When I was 5 or 6 years old, I liked having fun on rock music, but my father was a big fan of electronic music. Daft Punk, Paul Kalkbrenner, Carl Cox were on repeat at home. So I naturally fell in love with these sounds, even if I quickly knew I had something more calm and nostalgic inside of me. Things turned more serious when I managed to use FL Studio.

Who do you take inspiration from/would you compare your sound to?

I’m not someone who likes comparing to other artists. I’m inspired by creative minds like San Holo and Kasbo, but I listen to many different genres of music so I don’t get trapped into the same vibe each time I compose. I take inspiration from daily life, my own experiences and feelings. I think I’m quiet a romantic soul because I’m more creative in the studio when I feel sad or nostalgic.

Any gear/instruments you love to use whilst making your music

I have to mention my electric guitar, which is a pink Stratocaster. It’s a big love story between us and I use it on most of my tracks. So far, I’ve not been able to buy old-school analog synths but it’s on my wish list…

You’ve had props from Timbaland! Tell us about this?

I took part of an online competition for Amsterdam Dance Event last year and it was powered by BeatClub, which is run by Timbaland. My demo track was among the final songs that Timbaland came to live comment through his Twitch channel, and he was really seduced by my music as you can see on his face while he’s playing it. He had great words about my arrangements and mixing, so I was more than honored. He even said that it was a track Apple could use for a live product launching. His compliments gave me a high dose of motivation and confidence in my music.

Anyone you’d love to work with in the future?

A collab with San Holo would be a dream for me. Working with Dua Lipa would be something, too ! Tell us about your new single Snowfall?

It’s the first single to announce my debut album but it’s one of the oldest tracks I’ll have on the tracklisting. I composed it almost two years ago, when I tried to wrap up a kind of short EP (that was never released. It’s probably influenced by Petit Biscuit as I recall listening a lot to his ‘Presence’ album. At that time, it had a smoother mood than what I was used to do musically speaking, something more chill and retro. I think it’s the first track where I felt like having defined my artistic identity. It’s a creative track and the structure is really uncommon, with cinematic moments melt with energetic drops.

What else have you released in the last year you’re really proud of?

Early 2020, I released ‘Never Sleep’, a song I produced along with COOPEX, with a great vocal featuring by American singer MEL. It was enhanced by Trap Nation and we collected many streams, playlists and great feedbacks from this one.

How has lockdown been for you as an artist? Any tips for boosting creativity?

At first, it was a good thing for me as lockdown allowed me to stay in my bedroom-studio. It motivated me to compose a lot and I spent most of my time being creative, so I didn’t suffer too much. I admit that since a few months, I feel more and more frustrated, I’d love to hang out with my friends, travel to find new inspirations and find the way back to the DJ booth, which is something I really miss !

What does the future hold for NEZZY?

Next weeks are more than exciting for me. I’ll record my first Live performance on video and I’m into rehearsals right now, so it’s a big challenge to build a live act around my own music, something I’ve never done before but nothing more exciting. I’ll have many releases, too. A single on Soave with LissA, out on May 7th, then I’ll have a track out on Armada Music early June. And the peak time of 2021 for me will be June 28th, when I release my debut album to celebrate my 20th birthday…
