Recording artist, vocalist and producer Griffin Kenna has released over 16 singles during a period of two years, accumulating over 1 million streams and collaborating with the likes of livetronica producer Cofresi and SABEN with material via Westwood Records. He released his debut album ‘Sweetest Demon’ with a new track from the project being released every four weeks throughout 2022, with his latest single ‘What If I Could Fly’ revealing an effervescent electro-pop single that is not to be missed.
He now unveils ten essential tracks on our Back to Mine series!
1. “Can’t Stop” Red Hot Chili Peppers
I remember listening to the album “By The Way” on repeat with my family driving to Madison, CT for vacation when I was 7 years old. I fell in love with the album, then listened to it on repeat on my walkman for the next couple years. “Can’t Stop” is still one of my favs to this day.
2. “Sunday Morning” Maroon 5
“Songs About Jane” was an important album to me as a kid. I brought my walkman with me to friends houses and vacation and on the way to school listening to the whole thing whenever I got the chance. My cousin taught me how to play “Sunday Morning” on the piano and it’s still my go-to song whenever I lay my hands on a piano.
3. “See You Soon” Coldplay
This live performance of “See You Soon” is the only version I listen to. It’s magic and I never even knew what album this was on. I’m in love with the open tuning Chris Martin used and I’ve covered this song many times in my early years of playing coffee houses and serenading friends around the campfire.
4. “On Call” Kings Of Leon
I love the synth and vocal intro of this song. It’s overflowing with the most heart-felt emotions and then drops into a dirty southern rock song. Kings Of Leon are my favorite rock band and when I was a drummer in highschool I took a lot of inspiration from Nathan Followill, the drummer.
5. “Holocene” Bon Iver
“Holocene” is an orchestral, acoustic, indie masterpiece. This song makes me feel so hard and love in such a unique way and yet I still don’t really know what Bon Iver is saying or what he means, yet the song means so much to me from the pure emotion that I don’t need to.
6. “Moonlight” XXXTENTACION
When I heard “Moonlight” by XXXTENTACION I was immediately hooked by the melodies and beat. Simple, but instantly captivating and modern to this day.
7. “Do It Myself” Russ
I’ve listened to this song so many times it should be illegal. Russ is the most inspiring artist I’ve ever been a fan of. His determination has and will continue to drive me to work harder and be immersed in becoming who I want to be. The love/hate relationship listeners have with him is so interesting. I think he’s misunderstood by the people who hate him, because I think he’s actually a sweetheart and is the biggest ally and supporter of anyone who wants to be great and works hard to achieve it.
8. “Easy Love” Lauv
Lauv might be my favorite artist because I resonate the strongest with his lyrics and vibe. The sad boy, stadium pop thing is definitely what I’m aiming for and his album “How I’m Feeling” helped me get through some dark times.
9. “Always Been You” Quinn XCII
I only discovered Quinn in January 2021, but have listened to most of his albums continuously over the past year. Catchy, fun, goofy, yet in his feels and very akin to the production I’m now pursuing. His producer Ayokay is also a big inspiration and I love their teamwork.
10. “All The Kids Are Depressed” Jeremy Zucker
Jeremy’s writing and production is so dynamic and intriguing to me. I’m never bored and listening to his stuff was so refreshing that it inspired an evolved state of my writing and production especially for my album “Sweetest Demon” which is releasing across 2022.
