Back To Mine with Headman / Robi Insinna

After hours grooving at the best late night parties in town

01. Grace Jones: Me! I Disconnect From You (Radio Edit)
This track was just released on the Remaster Delux edition, it’s a Gary Numan cover. The whole album is incredible Sly and Robbie on the Bass and the Drums!

02. Headman / Robi Insinna feat Brassica: Work [Official Video]
This is the first track on my new album 6. I also directed the Video, the idea behind it was to combine, architecture fashion and music. It’s a collaboration with Brassica.

03. Headman: It Rough [Chicken Lips Remix]
This mix is now nearly 12 years old, originally it came out in 2003, I re-leased it on Relish in 2013. Still sounds fresh and rocks the dancefloors!

04. Model 500: No UFOs
Was listening loads to this when I was working on my album 6. Machine Funk at it’s best!!

05. Stephan EIcher: Nice
Stephan Eicher was part of legendary new wave Band Grauzone of Eisbär fame and Film 2. I will be putting out a Reworks release on Relish this track is one of them. Fantastic combination of Drum machines and guitars!!

06. Yello: Bostich
Seminal track, that inspired so many generations of DJs and producers, from Detroit to Berlin. I can just imagine when Yello played at the Roxy after Africa Bambata, and the NY underground crowd was surprised that those 2 arty guys from switzerland where making so cool avant garde Club Music. I also really like what Video Dieter did. He also directed the Video for Trio Da Da Da…

07. A Certain Ratio: Shack Up
I was always a big fan of ACR, the mix of darkness and funkiness was perfect! The clothes where also always spot on! I was very happy when I did a collaboration with them on Dream Pieces and released one of the new tracks on Relish Compilation EP in 2006.

08. Talking Heads: PsychoKiller
This is taken from the best Music Movie ever made SMS, the 808 playing out of the Radio with his amazing interpretation, is just unbeatable!

09. After the Heat: Eno & Cluster – Broken Head – 1978
I’m a Brian Eno fan, I decided to take something from the period when he was working in Düsseldorf with Cluster. The sound he was producing with them was also a big inspiration on the records he was working on with Visconti and Bowie and vice versa. I also really like the artistic approach Eno had.

10. 400 Blows: Pressure (1984)
This tracks was also always where inspiring for my production work. this was a short period in time where so many genres collided, drum machines, early sampling and loads of dubbed out sounds.

11. A Split Second: Flesh (Original Mix)
great New Beat classic, they would play the original of Flesh on 33 + 8 , which later on was also press with that speed.

Taken from Headman/ Robi Insinna’s “6” Album which was released on RELISH in September this year, the four track ‘6 E.P.II’ includes on side A1 ‘Number 9’, A2 ‘Swing Now Out Dub’  featuring Tara from ‘It Rough’ fame. First track on the B side is called ‘Something’ with vocals by David Shaw who’s collaborated with Jennifer Cardini on Correspondant. The last track on the B side, ‘Take Me To The Top Dub’ features Bozzwell aka Hiem from ‘Firm’ fame. The Dub versions are exclusive for the Vinyl release.

The new album ‘6’ feels like the conclusion of the music Robi has been putting out over the years. There are many collaborations on the album, with friends and artists he has previously worked with, including Brassica, The Emperor Machine, Red Axes, Sam from Gramme and Rosie from hot new Berlin Act Ballet School. The album release comes accompanied with a Fanzine style Art Book, with a download code for the Album, there will be 3 x 12″ vinyls together with the digital and Artbook release. The concept is further developed in the Video for the first Vinyl EP which is directed by Robi and has been premiered on THUMP/VICE TV. It’s a fusion of Art, Fashion and Music, the 3 things that in Robi’s eyes should always go together. Artist, Producer and DJ Robi Insinna aka Headman released his first album ‘It Rough’ in 2001. He has also released tracks as ‘Manhead’ and remixed the likes of Roxy Music, Gossip, Franz Ferdinand, Richard Fearless, Nitzer Ebb, The Units, Unknown Cases, Gina X and Klein & M.B.O. “6 E.P.II” is the second Vinyl E.P.

‘6’ is an eclectic album with a strong grounding in electronica whilst also staying true to the previous output of Robi and RELISH. Some tracks can sound more like post punk ESG influenced, some more like pre-detroit machine funk, and some of the vocal tracks have a more pop sensibility. The album was produced with lots of analog equipment which gives it that organic feel, although Robi always stresses that he doesn’t want to be just Retro, but take the best from the past and use it together with the technologies from now to create something modern. Style is always something very important for Robi’s projects, the use of old synths, guitar pedals, tape delays, drum machines or emulations and old vintage gear was essential to create a vintage and classy sounding album, which is also reflected in the art book and the video. The video is filled with references from the past, late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s but again with a style and taste that makes it very modern.
