Back to Mine with Crookers

After hours grooving…

When I was younger, I used to listen to this type of music all the time, and then I went off it – until I met my girl and I’ve been listening to this type of music more and more recently…

SZA – Babylon

I don’t know anything about this girl, zero! But I was listening to some random stuff online and I found this. I really like the track and video too! I normally listen to the whole album; I love these guys!

Aaliyah – Try Again

What can I say about Aaliyah? I’ve probably listened to her album 12 million times… Maybe more. She had such a great voice and that coupled with Timeberlands beats just made it epic!

August Alsina – Make It Home ft. Jeezy

This is my girlfriend’s favourite track, and now I really like it too! I love the mixtape that he made, and I really like the track he did with Jeremih for DJ Khalid.

Gonzales – Dot

This track comes from the album ‘Solo Piano’, and I think I’ve listened to this album everyday for the past 10 years. When I’m on tour, if I need to relax, I listen to the album and it helps me out.

Erykah Badu – On & On

It was really difficult to pick just one track that I like from Erykah Badu. I’ve been following her since her first album and she’s never done anything wrong in my opinion. She has a beautiful voice and a big character.

Outkast – ATLiens

I bought this album in 1996. This stuff opened my mind when I was 16 and listening to this stuff on vinyl. This is one of my favourites from the album. Whenever I listen to this track it brings me right back to being a teenager again.

D’Angelo – The Line

This whole album is super amazing. This guy is a genius! The reason I love this track is because it’s super sexy. I hate him because in the video, everything is perfect. I remember when I was younger I was like ‘F*** You! I hate you for having everything!’ haha!

Slum Village – Climax

Super classic! I’ve always been super into J Dilla, he tried different sound and I think this sound is a classic in my music biography. I really love it!

Janet Jackson – Got Til It’s Gone

I used to have 4 copies of this on vinyl!! When I was younger I used to go to DJ battles, and I used to use this track to do battles and just cut all the little parts I liked. This tracks makes me feel nostalgic, I love this record so much.

Dwele – I’m Cheatin

It’s kinda strange that the last 3 tracks are related to Dilla in a weird way… I make sure this track is in my car when I have to do long journeys as it makes the time pass much quicker. His voice is ridiculously amazing!

Crookers announces a brand new single ‘Picture This’ from the highly anticipated forthcoming album, ‘Sixteen Chapel’ through Ciao Records this November…

‘Picture This’ features long time collaborators and fellow label mates Dilligas. Combining nicely with Phra’s own impeccable productions, Dilligas bring their unique brand of upfront hybrid electro house to the fore. Phra explains, “Picture this. When we finished making ‘Picture This’ the track reminded us of Switch’s remix of Radioclit’s ‘Divine Gosa’, which is one of my favourite remixes ever. Picture this; we burst out laughing. I played ‘Picture This’ over two thousand times to my fans and picture this… They all went mental. The ‘Picture This’ video follows on from the ‘Able To Maximize’ video and ‘Picture This’ will also follow on to my next single when ‘Picture This’ comes to an end. Picture this.” Continuing on the theme of twisted fantasy as seen in the video for ‘Able To Maximize’, Crookers has once again roped in the talents of London based alternative animators, Plastic Horse, whose dreamlike imagery is the perfect accompaniment for the track. Phra’s previous releases, ‘Get Excited’, ‘Able To Maximize’, ‘Ghetto Guetta’ and ‘Heavy’ went back to the old school formula that gave Crookers its imitable sound and racked up tens of thousands of plays on Sound Cloud. Crookers remix of Kid Cudi’s ‘Day ‘N Nite’ reached #2 on the UK sales chart and Crookers’ debut album, ‘Tons of Friends’ featured an all-star lineup that included Miike Snow, Pitbull and Major Lazer. Not one to rest on his laurels, Phra is putting together the finishing touches to his next album planned for release later this year.
