Jordan Suckley

The UK’s hottest new trance export recaps on an incredible summer on the ones and twos

When people talk of Jordan Suckley in 2012, it’s become apparent that he’s no longer a hot upcoming prospect for the future. This year has seen him truly arrive on the global scene and take his place amongst the biggest ambassadors of Trance music in the world. From the biggest festivals in the UK to the one of the most globally famous radios in the world, to releases with many of the greatest labels in the game – there is no denying Jordan is now a serious force in Dance music. We spoke to Jordan about the 2012 summer and beyond.

Firstly, the brand new single “Sunkissed” is out now on Spinnin. What’s the story behind the track?

“Well I actually made this track before the Summer started and I just wanted to make an upbeat, happy Summer theme track that I could play at Festivals, Ibiza & on Boat parties etc! The track was received really well and went to #1 on the TrackItDown Trance chart which was great!”

You were there in person for the torrential downpour at Creamfields. How bad were the conditions.

“Yeah I was really gutted about Creamfields! I was down to play Saturday and Sunday this year, but only managed the Saturday gig. I was driving to the one on Sunday when I got the phone call from my manager to say it was cancelled and I was gutted, but it couldn’t be helped! I did see a guy pretending to swim in the mud though, nutter!

Rain aside, did you enjoy the set that you managed to do?

“Yeah 100%, it’s always great fun playing festivals! It wasn’t just the gig itself, I enjoyed the whole day and the experience!”

You also were booked for Global Gathering as well. Not many DJs can say they were booked for both. How do the two festivals compare for you?

“Yeah it was a real honour to play both, it’s been something I have wanted to do ever since I started my journey as a DJ, so I was extremely happy for this to happen! They were both just as crazy, and I drank the same amount of vodka at both. Nurofen for life!

What has been your anthem of the summer?

“Simon Patterson ft Sarah Howells- Here & Now (Club Mix)”

Your Pioneer DJsounds show was brilliant, it was great to see Trance get a good showcase. The video has pulled over 35,000 hits in just a couple of weeks, you must be happy with the feedback?

“Yeah to be honest I was a little nervous about how it would be received, as I was the first ever Trance guy to do the video. This is why I started off with some chunky beats then progressed on to the Trance to ease them in! I didn’t even get a chance to prepare for it either as I was so busy at the time, so I just had to pick a few tracks and make it up as I went along! More videos are on the way!”

You’re settled in now on BBC Radio 1, how are you finding life on one of the most influential radio stations in the world?

“The last 6 months have been an absolute whirlwind for me. I try and cover all the music you would expect to hear on a Trance night these days which is, House, Techno, Progressive, Uplifting and the more banging stuff too! I never would have thought I would be working for the BBC on the radio, it’s still very surreal, but I love it!”

We see on your Twitter that you’ve got a vocal project lined up, any news beyond that for us?

“The backing track is complete, I tried to make something a little fresh sounding, I suppose it can be classed as Psy Tech Trance? But I’m just waiting on the vocalist then it’s good to go!”

What do you have lined up in the studio for the rest of the year?

“We have…Simon Patterson – Always (Jordan Suckley remix) Night Vision 1st October. John O’Callaghan ft Josie – Out of Nowhere (Jordan Suckley remix). A collab with Simon Patterson (which is an absolute animal). A remix for Indecent Noise’s Mental Asylum Records and loads of other bits. I always like to have loads of projects on the go, so it’s best to check my Facebook page for updates!”

How about in the bookings department, anything in particular you are really hyped for?

“Loads of great gigs till the end of the year and beyond including my South Korea debut, Godskitchen, Goodgreef’s 12th Birthday, my residency at Inside Out, Hawaii and loads of others!”

2012 will be remembered for…

“Taking things up a gear!”
