Two of the hottest producers around get ready for Field Day with a huge release

Serge, Firas welcome to DMCWORLD. Well you have the Buzz Chart office jumping at the moment thanks to your new EP ‘Please Don’t Dance’ coming out on the Dirty Crew label soon. Tell us all about the release before it smashes into the chart next week…

“We’ve been in touch with Peter from Dirt Crew for a little while and we discussed putting together an EP for the guys; our friends Detroit Swindle are big fans of theirs and it all came together really nicely. We managed to get the Detroit Swindle boys to add a bit of a basement feel to one of the jams on there.”

I was gutted to be honest when I found out that you weren’t orphans from New York and that you didn’t get brought up by a guy who owned a dusty old record shop full of cool jazz and soul tunes. It had a cool film written all over it…

“Let’s get Bill Murray involved, then we’re talking!”

What are your favourite tracks of the minute?

“Detroit Swindle, Dusky, Ejeca, George Fitzgerald, Midland but it’s also about bringing out forgotten gems. Our favourite track can be anything from a Dance Mania/Henry Street/Strictly/Casual to Wolf Music/Love Fever/.There’s such an obsession with new and upfront music when essentially, there are also so many great old tracks out there that get people jumping.”

Tell us about your friends and family style label W&O Street Tracks and the artists you have planned for us for the rest of  2013…

“Being honest, there are no plans! We intend to be around for a while, and really want to be able to look back in 5/10 years and think that every release we did was dope. It’s counter productive to set yourself targets with music – for example, we have to do this, we have to release then…the best stuff comes when it isn’t forced. If that means Street Tracks releases 1 record in a year, then that’s what it means. It has to be right. The glove has to fit. We’re always checking new music and genuinely listen to everything we’re sent! WO 003 has just hit the top spot in just a few days on Juno’s vinyl chart; it’s a killer and Citizen, Ejeca & Rhythmn Operator have done a proper job for us. WO 004 is a 2 track EP from ourselves and it’ll be out before Summer on vinyl.”

Summer is hopefully around the corner which means lots of jumping around fields to loud music. We have already booked ourselves into Field Day in London’s Victoria Park on May 25th where you’ll be playing with the likes of Julio Bashmore, Ben Pearce and Seth Troxler. Who else are you looking forward to checking out at this marvelous capital festival?

“We think Seth is a great DJ and a top guy to boot. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, it’ll be great to check our boys Disclosure. Field Day always nails the line-ups and seems to cherry pick the best of what’s out there; you could be watching techno one minute, the next some indie band you’ve never heard of. When you’re working in electronic music, it’s really good to listen to other sounds and vary. You can pick up new ideas.”

Where else can we find you festival wise this summer?

“As well as taking our Street Tracks bandwagon to Secret Garden Party (we’re doing a mini-takeover of the Pagoda Stage with Ejeca and Citizen), we’ll also be at Unknown in Croatia, Gottwood, Farr Festival & Glastonbury. We’re also doing a few parties Off Sonar, which we’re really looking forward to.”

It may not be good for our image, but Waze & Odyssey really like…

“Beef dripping! Damn!”

And finally, what is coming next from the Waze & Odyssey studio…

“We’re very aware how being out most weekends can affect the studio time you put in, balance is important Our next release after the Dirt Crew EP is the aforementioned W&O Street Tracks release. EP coming out on Lets Play House from New York City with Urulu rolling out the remix. You’ll just have to wait and see…”
