Movers & Groovers
The Music Industry’s Movers And Groovers.

This week, Matt Priest now firmly encamped at DX Media reveals all…

Matt. You are one of the biggest ‘behind the scenes’ industry figures – where did it all begin for you music wise out on the floors?
“I grew up very close to Brighton, so 1988 was all about The Zap Club, Carl 3 deck Cox and Chris Coco – I didn’t stand a chance!”

Radio 1 – you were a legend promoting and pushing dance music on the  biggest radio station in the world – what were your proudest moments?
“Events wise,  all Love Parade activity, Leeds and Berlin parades and of course Ibiza. Also the signings of Fergie and Rob Da Bank.”

How did you feel going to work every morning and having to walk into that grotty Radio 1 building.
“Loved it, and the pubs were great…”

What do you think of Radio 1 these days, who are the shining stars on our airways?
“Tongy has still got it, Jules is in his rightful place and Rob Da Bank is just superb”

You are somewhat of an Ibiza and Miami legend…give us your top ‘I will regret this in the morning’ story…
“No chance – but it involves Manumission…”

Favourite dance record of all time?
Joe Smooth’s ‘Promised Land’

So you left Radio 1, spent a little time at Bob Geldof’s media company and are now sitting with your arse in a chair at DX-Media – what’s the score and what’s the plan?
“DX is a provider of digital radio stations. We have just launched ‘NME Radio’ (available at nme.com, Sky, Virgin Media and Freesat), I also look after live events and sponsorship. Our aim is to add more radio brands to our portfolio as we grow. It’s really exciting to be part of something at the start which is gonna be huge”
