A Walk On The Wild Side
Words from the craziest people on the dancefloor.

This week Kim Booth – a lovely, lovely loop the loop madmisslist…

Kim, where did it all begin? How did you get into this crazy clubbing world and at what clubs did it all begin?
“I actually began by being a journalist for Ministry Magazine about 8 years ago. Starting at the bottom and working my way up. Club wise in London it was Ministry, The End, Turnmills and Fabric. I also went to the Slinky Halloween Ball when I was just 17, with bright pink hair and black lipstick – but we wont talk about that…”

Where are you living now, tell us about your company ‘Rebel Butterfly’ and what’s it all about?
“Right now, I’m living in Ibiza where I have lived every summer for the past five years. In the winter I usually live in Paris but last winter I lived in Berlin and this winter I will live in London – time to see what is happening in London! Or time to make something happen in London perhaps. ‘Rebel Butterfly’ is an international music and event promotions company. I move around a lot, meet a lot of people and I know what works where. So it all makes sense.” www.rebelbutterfly.co.uk

What is the maddest party you have ever been to?
“There are way too many to say the maddest. Loads in Ibiza – the villa of joy 2006 closing party being the best that springs to mind. A good few in Miami for the conferences the past few years. Some excellent eye opening craziness at the Panorama Bar in Berlin and some fancy dress fun at Fabric, The End, secretsundaze and the Mulletover parties in London.”

Best fancy dress outfit you have worn?
“Either the inflatable sumo suit or the wedding dress with the Scream mask and pink Marge Simpson wig – whilst doing the hula hoop. Or the Miami tit dress and drawn on moustache. Or my green Christmas tree dress. Or my indian swimsuit. Or the pink iceskater’s outfit. Or anything consisting of Spandex.”

Best Ibiza tale?
I think the villa of joy closing party 2006 again. It was supposed to happen all summer and then I forgot to organise it. On the night of the ‘we love… Space closing’, Ali from Tiefschwarz was like ‘so Kiiiim, are we doing the party or what?’. It was 4am by this point and I had to madly run around borrowing decks and getting people to go back to mine to set it up. I had to stay at the club until the finish and Ali called me saying that we needed new needles. So, after the Space discoteca closed, I went in and nicked a needle – I gave it back the next day though. Loads of amazing people came to the party and I think it really was the best after party ever! Also involved catapulting me into the swimming pool using a human sling shot.”

Favourite DJs of all time?
“Laurent Garnier – without question. He is pure magick and plays how he wants and what he wants. He truly educates people with music across all genres. I’ve had so many Garnier ‘moments’ and I know loads of other people have also. Luciano – an amazing DJ who seems to be getting better and better. He went off the ball a bit last year but is totally back on it now – he doesn’t just play one sound and does it all very well. And Dixon. – I got introduced to him via him playing after Garnier at the Panorama bar in Berlin this year and he totally blew me away…”

Who is the craziest clubbing pal you have and why?
“I would say the DJ Bones – he can go on for days and days and days”

What is the worst place you have ever woken up in?
“The offices of The End and the offices of Turnmills – both when I was completely drunk, I had no clue where I was! I’ve also woken up with a cheese roll stuck to my face twice. Must have been hungry.”

Graham Gold or Brooke Bond?
“Who is Brooke Bond?”
