Future Stars Who Are Gonna Set Dancefloors Alight

This week Tim Davidson…

Tim, remix duties including Primal Scream’s ‘Come Together’, The Chemicals ‘Block Rockin’ Beats’ and ‘Underworld’s ‘Cowgirl’…what have you got coming out yourself in the future months ?
“I spent much of the last 12 months working on my debut artist album ‘Long Way From Home’ on Baroque Records, so have taken some time off to recharge and have only recently started working on new material once again. My track ‘Cats Cradle’ has just been released on Anthony Pappa’s label ‘Red Light District’ featuring remixes from Infusion’s Jamie Stevens – and also my remix of Cevin Fisher’s seminal ‘You Got Me Burning Up’ on Subversiven has recently come out. Coming up shortly I have ‘Patrol’ out on Australian label Vapour and there will also be remixes of a number of my tracks from my album.”

You have big ups and back slaps from the likes of Sasha, Diggers, Zabiela, Van Dyk and Fancuilli – where these the sort of DJs you looked up to when you were on the other side of the ones and twos?
“Oh absolutely. “Northern Exposure” was one of my main inspirations when I first started out and Sasha and Diggers continue to blaze a trail. Something that Fancuilli is now also really starting to do. James is one of the most gifted DJs out there now, one of a few DJs who has really embraces new technology to carve out his own unique niche. It’s interesting that Paul Van Dyk has picked up on so much of my music as it is so far from the trance to which he is traditionally associated to, but it just goes to show how much his ‘sound’ has evolved over the past decade. Nice.”

Tell us about your South American adventures…
“It’s a place where my ‘sound’ really remains strong and it’s great that it continues to be embraced with such enthusiasm. I’ve recently returned from a fantastic few gigs taking in the club Crobar in Buenos Aires and Club F in Cordoba which just remind you why you started DJing in the first place – simply fantastic! I also recently played over in Bogota in Colombia and there is a tour planned for later in the year across South America so I’ll be clocking up the ol’ air miles.”

Why do you think the UK is in such a low rut clubbing wise at the moment?
“I think ultimately it was a victim of its own success. As forms of dance music pervaded the mainstream culture in the form of everything from television adverts and mainstream television, it lost it’s cool image and the young blood saw something in the resurgence of guitar based music. As older clubbers ‘retired’ there were less new clubbers to fill the gap. While the traditional dance music scene is not as prevalent as it was in the late 90s, new sounds continue to emerge and with the closure of clubs such as Turnmills, The End and The Cross  for example, new more underground parties are springing up. This brings in new blood and dance music will continue to evolve and develop. Music can be incredibly cynical. The forthcoming opening of Matter at the 02 arena is a bold move and will be an excellent barometer…”
Melodic beats and tech treats are your trademark…what do you listen to at home or in the car?

What’s in your iPod at the moment?
“I”m absolutely loving the new album from Midfield General and the Fabric Series compilations always serve up something new and unexpected that traditionally I wouldn’t have sought…from hip hop to nu rave to Drum n’ Bass, just some great ideas and sounds. Loving the eclecticism!”
