Change – Reach For The Sky: The Change Anthology – (Grooveline Records)

It would be hard to sum up the dance music of the early 1980s without thinking of Change, the massive group that blended the very best of US soul and R&B with a touch of classy Italian disco. Not only that, it launched the career of Luther Vandross, as well as bringing in singers such as Jocelyn Brown, Deborah Cooper and James ‘Crabbe’ Robinson. This handsome, photo-packed collection of 28 tracks runs across the group’s discography and includes all the big hitters. ‘Change Of Heart’, ‘The Glow Of Love’, and ‘Say You Love Me Again’ are just three examples – presented in 12” form for maximum enjoyment. What really comes across here though is the way Change completely mastered their form, and that when Jam and Lewis were in tow they were pretty much irresistible. This tribute is well deserved and brilliantly packaged.
