If Phil Asher has chosen the tracks on a compilation then I’d say it was a pretty safe bet. So don’t feel obliged to read this review just go ahead and buy it. But, if you do want to sample the delights on offer first then how about the ecstatic tones of Sara Devine’s ‘Special’ or the tribal intensity of Vernessa Mitchell’s ‘Took My Life’ for starters. Its only when you listen to tracks like these that you realise the art of song writing isn’t like the Dodo (defunct), you just need to look a bit harder to find it these days. So again if you try Carolyn Harding’s ‘Pick It Up’ and Ultra Nate’s heartfelt vocal delivery on ‘A Wonderful Place’ you’ll reap the rewards. A highly recommended collection of soulful music on one disc.
