It’s not always about pump and grind as this return from the label’s co-founder proves with his collaboration with jAi:aTo on the EP’s opening ‘Underdog’. Although, that’s not say that the production isn’t underpinned by dark, smoky kick-ass beats but that the surrounding chiming rhythms alongside the commanding vocals lend this arrangement an enticing, subtle edge. ‘Good Measure’ then heads deep with brooding, undulating basslines while the third original ‘Apex’ delivers contrasting bright yet grainy atmosphere’s to get lost in. Complimented by the sheer snare drum craziness of Mia Wallace’s intense remix this completes an excellent, original release from the Chicago imprint.
