Welcome back Stereo 8!!! Their last 12” on Finger Lickin’ from 2 years back ‘Flipmode’ has taken up residency in our box. They may be slow (what’s preferable? quality or quantity!) but the wait is worth it. A big, brooding, monster bass line that whooshes under your feet, old skool style stabs and the much in demand vocal talents of fellow Bristol breaks lyricist, Jakes. Jakes delivery is laid back and confident but with full on attitude, his tone is warm and pleasing, a talented MC. Funking and chunking with a smooth groove, quality. The flip is an unusual ditty, trumpets, vocals, driving b line, infectious with crossover potential….but for us the A side wins out every time.
