Defected presents – House Masters Masters At Work Volume Two – (Defected Records)

Having just caught my breath from relieving all those glorious MAW moments offered by reviewing Volume one it’s now the second in the series turn to reignite the memories, or if you’re lucky enough this will all be new to you! Calling back to a time (in the not so distant past) where eloquent songs sat side by side with rip tearing beats and rhythms I guess you could be forgiven for being just a little nostalgic (but not too much). And opening cleverly with the self-penned ‘To Be In Love’ followed by their Nuyorican Soul ‘It’s Alright, I Feel It!’ is a hard act to better for sure. In many ways this is much more impressive than the first in the series containing their remixes of Neneh Cherry ‘Buddy X’, Raw Silk ‘Do It To The Music’, and Nina Simone’s ‘See-Line Woman’ amongst a wealth of others. But also because of the sheer quality of MAW’s original productions such as the sublime ‘You Can Do It (Baby)’ featuring George Benson with that extended ecstasy intro, plus the Roy Ayers collaboration ‘Our Time Is Coming’. A pretty much flawless and faultless compilation.
