Compilation series come and go, but ‘Back To Mine’ has got the suss to keep it interesting and fresh, drafting in artists that intrigue and don’t do the bleedin‚ obvious. For the 24th iinstallmentDMC have persuaded those ambassadors of epic sun drenched psychedelics, Mercury Rev, to let us into a bit of their world. David Bowie opens this session with ‘A New Career In A New Town’, lifted from his groundbreaking album ‘Low’. Terry Jacks is here with his nostalgic 70‚s pop classic ‘Seasons In The Sun’, and Billie Holliday turns on the bourbon soaked heartache with ‘I‚m A Fool To Want You’. The flat drone of Nico gets a bit ffolk-tasticwith ‘Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams’, while Jason Pearce’s Spacemen 3 take a trip to the pulsing ‘Big City’, where Suicide give us some New York sleaze in the shape of ‘Dream Baby Dream’. Our hosts Mercury Rev float us off on the exclusive ‘Cecilia’s ‘Lunar Expose’, which is a lovely place to be, landing us in the magical world of ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’, courtesy of Cliff Edwards. ‘Mercury Rev – Back To Mine’ is 19 cuts that make the perfect soundtrack, for being snuggled up in ‘Holes dug by little moles’, on a cold and frosty night.
