Various Artists – W&O Volume 1 – (W&O Street Tracks)

This is an early line in the sand from Waze & Odyssey’s W&O Street Tracks label, documenting where they are after eight releases – by commissioning a whole set of new stuff for a label confirmation. In the process they confirm once again they are definitely a name to watch. Right from the start, where Adrian & Sake go back to basics with ‘Midnight Stagger’, it is clear the quality threshold is high – nice and simple but really well done. That’s definitely the case with the classy XXXY cut ‘TPW’ and Street Tracks’ ‘Don’t You (Get Away)’, which adds an edge with its slower breakdown. Steve Huerta & Urulu’s ‘Hypoxia’ gets really swirly in its blend of house and techno, while Citizen offer a powerfully brooding number with ‘Jaded’ to close. This is a consistently strong collection that shows what a good place the label are already in.
