Close To The Edit Vol 2: Compiled & Edited By Greg Wilson
Tirk

This year has been notable for an ever-increasing interest in proper disco as exotic sub-stratas like 80s boogie, cosmic and Italo not only made old men very happy but inspired an ever-increasing wave of new producers. Much credit for this joyous momentum must go to DJ pioneer and master of the re-edit Greg Wilson, whose name appeared on several towering collections. His first Close To The Edit set in 2005 focused on seminal gems from the 70s and 80s. Now he’s finally got round to Volume 2, this time mixing older classics with those they’ve intoxicated, like the mighty Crazy P. Wilson’s unearthly surgery subtly highlights the insidious sensuality and killer ingredients of underground classics like Sugar Daddy’s ‘Love Honey’, while stretching stalwarts like Roxy Music’s ‘Love Is The Drug’, A Guy Called Gerald’s ‘Voodoo Ray’ and Klein &MBO’s electro milestone ‘Dirty Talk’ into hallucinogenic gondoliers sailing through the pleasure zones. On outings like Gary Davis’s monstrously funked-up ‘One Life Time To Live’ he seems to have perfected a way of injecting Viagra via lower frequencies. This heavenly set unexpectedly ends with a 2008 cover of Duffy’s ‘Mercy’ by The Third Degree which sounds like the ancient original. Somehow perfect.
