Immer 3 Mixed By Michael Mayer
Kompakt

Michael Mayer has an awful lot to live up to with this compilation, given that the original ‘Immer’ was declared by many to be their favourite compilation of the so-called ‘noughties’. He delivers with room to spare, in the form of a seamless mix that takes on the form of a single track, gradually evolving as it goes through spinning melodic loops, subtly employed basslines and beautifully tailored vocals. Mayer has lived with each of these tracks for a long time and it shows, the mix drifting in with Ewan Pearson’s weightless remix of Courtney Tidwell’s ‘Don’t Let The Stars Keep Us Tangled Up’, then gradually acquiring more beef as it moves through Raudive’s ‘Slave’ and Gui Boratto’s mix of Massive Attack’s ‘Paradise Circus’. Every progression feels inevitable, with not a beat out of place – and those holding the original Immer in such high esteem will not be disappointed.
