Worth following closely Antwerp’s Surprise is one fine european label producing electro with a raunchy rock flavour (or is it the other way around?). Produced by legendary maverick Dan Lacksman (Telex, Deep Forest) Vive La Fête! are about to release their fourth album ‘Grand Prix’; first excerpt ‘Hot Shot’ shows that singer Els Pynoo and her partner Danny Mommen are still excellent at fusing sixties French pop and eighties British new wave with the sound of now (fun cover of Lio’s lolita hit ‘Banana Split’ on the flip). Nid & Sancy’s album ‘Talk To The Machine’ is a great piece of punky electro that puts to shame retro rockists such as The Kills (think Stooges and LCD with an electronic Berlin twist). Remixed by Gomma’s Munk, ‘Sleaze Boogie’ becomes an hypnotic groover with sizzling rave stabs.
