Agent Orange – Feel This Way – (Cerecs)

Agent Orange is the latest man to step up here for Todd G’s Cerecs label – and he does so in a manner that hints at great things to come. The label, of course, has been on a bit of a roll recently, and it’s clear that the US producer behind this one has cannily leant on his wealth of experience for a straight-up tech house outing that’ll get the guys and the girls dancing. Structured around a shrewd sample of Outkast’s Ms Jackson, the original of ‘’Feel This Way” is discerning yet feel good stuff of the type that practically forces the listener on to the dancefloor. Agent Orange’s use of the drums is a prominent force here, as are the glistening chords that define its summer-time ethos. Todd G’s remix is the finest of the lot, however. He chops the vocal up and bases his reworking around a solid acid palette that’s not too pummelling but is just right. Expect this one to go down a treat with other similarly minded jocks a la Josh Wink et al. Jason Brooks’ remix, meanwhile, is more robust, and it rarely deviates from its strident ‘underground’ approach. A worthy tool, it neatly leads us in to Shotdown’s effort, which is also the last of the bunch. Weighty synths are the order of the day here, while the drop – when it comes – makes it the most likely of all the tracks here to have any sort of crossover potential. A decent job for a label that we’re fast beginning to admire in these parts.
