Rebirth

It’s almost getting predictable that the Rebirth logo will be harbouring yet another dancefloor killer when the next, increasingly regular, gem arrives. That certainly applies to Phille Lussan and Vlad Jocic’s follow-up to ‘Finest Dream’, who again bring in Japanese orchestral arranger Yukari Yamashita, this time sculpting a raft of string lines from master violinist Bogdan Vacarescu and cellist Mathew Barlow to go with the classically-trained duo’s own haunting music and insidious groove. As you might expect, it’s the classical house scenario but devoid of the gimmick factor, more creating a gorgeous backdrop of symphonic depth, also recalling Derrick May’s classic ‘Sueno Latino’ mix. Seattle producer Pezzner’s remix injects spacey Detroit elements and goes somewhere else entirely, maybe surprisingly not focussing on the strings which are completely absent on his Dub. Harri and the Revenge likewise head off into different stratas with tribal elements, before And If’s Reprise brings back the best thing about the track – this time the orchestration in almost ambient form.
