When I say ‘Tried and Tested’ and ‘New Best Friend’ in the same sentence it’s time to bow down bitches because Finnebassen’s Rotundo has passed every test for me at home, in a dj mix and played out live in a sweaty, dark club. The interplay of a heavy rolling sub bass, dark ecclesiastical bell hits, rapid fire, snappy snares and twitchy keys trance it out for the first part of the track. Relief comes with a soaring synth pads and then … it drops out to the chimes and bells and you could be forgiven for doing a lap of honour right here and right now. It’s so good that people indeterminately lose their shit in front of your eyes to this tech house / techno / progressive chameleon. ‘Rotundo’ successfully and religiously breathes life into any floor. My single of the month so far.
