The reason why the Venezuelan duo has made such an impact in such a short space of time becomes painfully apparent as soon as you listen to their initial album. It is also patently obvious why they have found a home on Crosstown Rebels as their sound clearly reflects the imprints signature moods and interplay between light and dark. Fans of the label, and Fur Coat, will find little to disappoint here as this creatively satisfying blend of invigorating electronics, taught beats and basslines, and the impressive use of vocals from the likes of Rap Lisa, Mel Blatt and (the always excellent) Cari Golden on ‘You & I’ not only cement their skills at wordplay, but equally so their studio mastery. And just to further the idea of diversity ‘Mind Over Matter’ also plays with an ambient interlude plus a couple of down tempo numbers too, with the challenging ‘This Is The End’ playing out for kicks.
