Georgi Barrel – Down (sinnmusik)

Long term Kassel resident and Sinnmusik favourite Georgi Barrel puts a hot new spin on House music for 2015 with his latest release. Germany based and serving up a brand new EP sure to see success in the Electronic Dance music charts this year, Barrel’s new release features remixes by some of the label’s most celebrated and closest friends such as Adrian, Fasika and Whedler. Musically inspired by late 90‘s garage and early 90‘s hip-hop in its original form, ‘Down’ is a deep house groove in full throttle. With its euphoric synths, twilight beat and spaced out aura, these echoing sounds can only make you think of cruising down the highway in the summer sun, and warms up any cold January afternoon. Creating an inviting mood, the smooth vocals contrast perfectly with the robust bassline, projecting off a more reflective vibe in comparison to his other production on the EP ‘Forms Of Freedom’. This track is very dance floor friendly with its speedier tempo and retro-funk vocals. It’s a more classic sound but it still manages to enhance his own unique style, and showcases his talents as an up and coming artist. A string of remixes follow soon after, from Fasika churning out that familiar house-pumping beat we know and love well, followed by an exciting and fibrous remix from Adrian. This is bound to get any foot moving with its high strings, seizing sound effects and reassuring vocals. To finish off, Whedler turns it up a notch in producing a concentrated blend of ricocheting beats, weighty bassline and vocals on the side. This would fit in perfectly into any deep, dark mix. An excellently produced and balanced EP, that really showcases their talents well.
