Love Assassins
Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use)
Big In Ibiza

And the remakes continue with the Love Assassins (themselves fast becoming an habitual cover version outfit) now turning their attention to the song first put Sub Sub on the map in 1993. Typical of the northern clubbing sound of the first half of the nineties, Sub Sub sprung up from the drug fuelled Madchester scene that gave rise to an identity of its own. Twins Jez and Andy Williams, and classmate Jimi Goodwin, scored a top three hit with songstress Melanie Williams fronting this single. It landed her a major label album deal, while the siblings reinvented themselves as the Doves ditching their disco roots and turntables for eyeliner and rock born out an admiration for the Velvet Underground and Smiths. As to this new version,it’s wisely built about that killer piano-riff that drove us all nuts back-in-the-day, and is once more in vogue. Feel good music for a feel good generation.
