MIKE OWEN
SQUELCH IS GOOD
BLACK & WHITE

What an apt title, as this really does deliver the squelch in a massive bucketfulls. Analogue synthesizers are the name of the game as Mr. Owen crafts a tight little dancefloor pounder. A nicely accomplished percussive build-up announces this record’s intentions and delivers a tidy slab of top end energy trip to the dancefloor. The drums are cut momentarily and a onebar bassline assault comes into play. It’s the stabs in the first breakdown that hit us in the chest. They are simply superb; totally evocative of a big room house moments from the mid-nineties and screaming at us in the sounds of the productions from D Ramirez and co. This is a big tune, aimed squarely at the dancefloor and your record box will be a little less useful and without it.
