DJ Hell always seems to be ahead of the game and on top of his game, with expectations running high, his latest outing “Teufelswerk” (Devil’s Work) does not disappoint, with 16 cuts spread over two CD’s “Night” & “Day”, he certainly had to dig deep. The opening “U Can Dance” transports us to a sophisticated chic discoteque where the style icon Bryan Ferry croons over percolating synths with a certain suave ease. After some cranked up fun fun fun on the autobahn through “Electronic Germany”, the next stop is P. Diddy’s gaff in Ibiza, where you’ll find him gobbing off over the Seduction bassline in the smoke filled & strobe lit house basement, taking it deep and working the class A, and that’s just for starters, what a “Night”. With “Teufelswerk” Hell went all the way back to the early 70’s for the blueprint,  you can clearly hear the influences of Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd amongst many others, twisted and bent out of shape, then set to driving Detroit and Chicago rhythms. However the “Day” is a much more out there affair, co produced by Peter Kruder and containing the epic single “The Angst”, alongside some rather disturbing art house soundtrack stuff, and an amazing Japan tinged rendition of Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine”. “Teufelswerk” is an inspiring album and proof that Hell still calls the shots.
