Smash TV – Surreal Love – (Hive Audio)

It’s often said that big things come in small packages, and this is especially true of the latest Smash TV release. Seeing the light of day on the HIVE Audio label, the Surreal Love EP might feature no more than one track, but the most crucial aspect to all this is that it’s one hell of a naughty number. Smash TV, of course, are likely to register with keen house heads thanks to their work on labels such as Get Physical, BPitch Control and Octopus, so they had considerable renown even before they were picked up by the HIVE lads. As it happens, the lads recently touched down for a gig at the HIVE headquarters in Zurich and while we’re unsure if this one was even played on the night, we’d be fairly confident it did. In fact, such are the various uptempo and ‘lose yourself’ strands that permeate through this one that it’s almost sure to have been allowed to flex its wings on the famous dancefloor. At times it’s a rip-roaring anthem while at other times it’s a pitched-back subdued slice of merriment. If a producer’s judged by an uncanny ability to weave between textures, tones and moods, then this is another exceptional outing by the Smash TV guys.
