NO MUMBAH – UDU (D-EDGE RECORDS) (29/07)

No mumbah is Ale Reis, André Torquato and Rafael Moraes, a trio who hope to really make a lasting impression with their music and their sets. Their next trick is a top three track EP on Brazil’s finest label, D Edge Records. It comes after fine EPs and an LP on Osunlade’s esteemed Yoruba label as well as Sonar Kollektiv and is another fine bit of work from the boys.

UDU kicks things off with trippy and late night melodies stretched over soft, rubbery drums. Deep but driven it is a nice and emotive start. Mutu then picks up the pace with a more direct drum line. The synths are squelchy and urgent and add real colour to the groove. There is some real funkiness in the guitar riffs in the second half and it’s a sumptuous tune. Bullets then again pairs lithe and well sculpted synths and melodies with stripped back and atmospheric drums. It is a richly detailed track that closes out a brilliant EP.
