What I call ‘an anticipator’. V crowd – pleasing staccato bassline, shimmering synths, simple drop and an acid ending. Phonique and Nic Fanciulli on my case for this.
2. STUDIO R – ‘A & R’ (LLORCA REMIX) (COMPOST)
Llorca! Where has he been?? An authoritative deep house figure from the mid 90’s re-appears with this super-funky piece of hip-house shot through with modern production touches. Class in a glass.
3. EYERER and CHOPSTICK – ‘THE HAUNTING’ (SLEEPERTHIEF MIX) (iO)
A very popular track in all its forms recently but I am digging this sleepy, dubby re-work that will deepen any set without losing any energy.
4. PEDRO MADEIRA – LONG SHADOWS (BUZZIN’ FLY CD-R)
Another recent signing for the label. Numinous string and oboe line driven by deep techno beats and perfectly judged crescendos.
5. MAKOSSA AND MEGABLAST – PORQUE (G-STONE)
Future-facing techno-Afro! Can see this in Miami …
6. JON CUTLER – 640 (ABYSS REMIX) (RUSH RECORDINGS, ITALY)
Not sure if this will see the light of day or not, but our boy Abyss has rinsed out this classic good and proper in the style that brought him so many friends with last year’s ‘Mind Games’ and ‘The Dreamer’.
7. HALO AND KEMAL – STATE OF MIND (CD-R)
Brian Varga dusts off his Isolee and Ame records and reminds us how to make a superbly paced long ride through the sound du jour.
8. LONEY, DEAR – SOLOGNE LP (DEAR JOHN)
My current essential post-club journey-home music. Melodically heart-stopping indie-folk. Super-gorgeous and affecting.
