Colonel Red’s Album on People Music is fantastic, reminiscent of Prince with a touch of D-Angelo, just plain ol’ funky. This collaboration with the Bugz is what they do best with the voice they needed!
02. H C C R – “Warped” – (Bambossa)
Fantastic rework of Eddie Grant’s ‘Time Warp” by Harry Choo Choo Romero. So good, it’s almost hard to tell from the original.
03. Peven Everett – “Stuck” – K- (Dope)
As vocal dance music has become more and more boring, singers/songwriters like C. Red and Peven bring back some much needed credibility to a dying genre. Straight forward, dirty, soulful house.
04. Matthias Heilbronn feat. Inaya Day – “I Made It” (suSu-Records)
Best female house vocalist of the Year and “Top Of The Pops” Diva Inaya Day returns to her soulful roots. The dub takes it back to the old school Chicago hay days while the Acid Thunder mix goes all the way tech.
05. Candela Allstars – “Brobombique” (Candela Recordings)
I heard these guys play live in Puerto Rico, and it was Salsa, or “Bomba” as they called it at it’s best. The orig. version of this song is, as the name implies, a mixture of Bro(-ken Beat), Bomb(-a), with an influence of traditional (Mozam -) bique folk, but whenever I play the uplifting latin house mix, people loose their minds!
06. Kenny Bobien – “Grateful” – (Fanatiz Remix) (Sfere Records)
Another vocal record that shines, just because it isn’t as polished and formulaic as everything else on the market, and when Kenny Bobien sings gospel, he means it!
07. Moodlife – “Mystery Of Love” – (The Heavy Remake) (USB Records)
Just in time when the new generation is too young to remember what started house, serious remakes like Mr V’s “Let’s Get Jazzy” and earlier mentioned “Warped” come to re-educate. Who better to bring back Finger’s Inc.’s classic then Marshall Jefferson. And if you don’t know, now you know…
08. Cultural Vibe -“Ma Foom Bey (Revised)” (Easy Street/Syntax)
One of my favorite house classic, remixed by Lost Heroes, soon to be released on the original label. A Dub – Reggae remix that will have punters at FK’s “Deep Space” climb the walls.
