Trainspotting with JD73

Big tunes form the big hitters…

1. Disclosure – Holding On (feat. Gregory Porter) – Island/Universal Music
This inspired pairing with Gregory Porter has a great bouncy beat and soulful chord progression, right up my street! Soulful Garage is back – gotta love a bit of Disclosure!

2. Incognito – Send Your Love (JD73 Remix) – Incognito/Edel Germany
One of my favourite bands, I was honoured when Bluey from Incognito approached me to remix this beautiful song, had a ball doing it! I sped it up and added my signature Moog bass and loadsa Rhodes – all proceeds go to charity in Nepal.

3. Opolopo – Staying Power (feat. Pete Simpson) – Z Records
Just out on Joey Negro’s Z Records (who put out my last album) and featuring the legendary Pete Simpson on vocals who also features on my new JD73 album! This is soulful Rod Temperton/Quincy Jones-style dance-floor funk at its best, with a great groove, delicious dose of Earth Wind and Fire-style horns and Opolopo’s signature production. Superb!

4. Hiatus Kaiyote – By Fire – Sony
Loving this twisted/broken yet soulful groove with great production and sublime chords. Really progressive and uplifting. Love the 16th hi-hats too. One of my favourite current bands.

5. Acid Mondays (feat. Shovell and JD73) – Chi Ka Pasa – Rockets and Ponies
Myself, Shovell and the Acid Mondays have conjured up a few twisted grooves over the last few years and this is the latest- tribal, hypnotic and futuristic. Can’t help but nod your head over and over to this one!

6. Soulpersona & Princess Freesia (feat. Jocelyn Brown) Makes You Feel Good – SPR
Great disco/boogie vibe from my UK-soul mates SoulP and Princess Freesia, also featuring the legendary Jocelyn Brown. Does it make you feel good? Oh yes it certainly does!

7. Snoop Dogg – This City – Doggy Style Records
Pharrell Williams produced disco-funk with Snoop’s rapping and vocals over the top- love the vibe of this, great to hear some proper new-style funk/disco coming from Snoop.

8. JD73 Ft Fraser –  Believe In Love – (JD73’s Re-Twist) – Splash Music Productions
Remix of my latest single but in a more hard-hitting 4-to-the-floor setting. A universal message of love with punchy live drumming, filthy Moog bass and Korg M1 Piano.

9. Dego – We’ve Been Here Before – 2000 Black
Dego always delivers amazing beats, production and chord progressions that take you to a higher plane. This killer new track has a Herbie Hancock Sunlight flavour and incessantly addictive groove with an instantly recognisable Dego twist (gotta be Kaidi Tatham on keys too methinks) ! Love it!

10. D’angelo – Another Life – RCA/Sony
Another hero of mine and a big influence, Another Life is a future soul classic- love the floating vocals, sweet chords, the super pulled-back drumming and elastic bass. A fitting close to another classic D’angelo album.

JD73 ft Fraser ‘Believe in Love’ will be released on June 14th 2015 Splash Music Productions.
