Trainspotting with Teddy Douglas

Teddy Douglas has produced everyone from Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Crystal Waters, Erykah Badu, Martha Wash and Ultra Nate’ and was an important figure in the development of the Baltimore “House” Sound. In 1985 he met Jay Steinhour and Thommy Davis who later went on to form The Basement Boys production company. The Basement Boys have produced countless dance classics like the 1991 Gold single, ‘Gypsy Woman’ … Fast forward, and 30 years later Teddy is still rocking dance floors with his uplifting DJ sets and producing some of the finest soulful house music around. As he releases his fabulous reinterpretation of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Disco classic, ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with the legendary Basement Boy, Teddy Douglas.

1 Teddy Douglas feat Richard Burton – Don’t Leave Me This Way – Quantize Recordings

My first single from the soon to be released LP on Quantize Recordings, celebrating 50 years of great music from Philadelphia International. The single features Richard Burton on lead vocals and Jasper St Co. on background vocals, it’s a FUTURE CLASSIC!!

2 Kenny Bobien – You Gave Me Love (Remix) – Basement Boys Records

The unreleased mix of You Gave Me Love was big for me at Suncebeat festival in 2019 . It was about to be released and then Covid hit. It’s out now on the 6 am Choices mix Lp from Tony Humphries.

3 Doug Gomez – A Vida El Sol – Merecumbe Recordings

Doug Gomez is on fire. His productions are my favorite at the moment. This is a true latin peak hour jam that’s filled with live instruments and catchy melody.

4 Mike City Ian Friday Seems Like Forever – Global Soul Music

Written by Josh Milan this is a beautiful song with great production as always from Ian Friday.

5 Adira Kasey – Hard To Love (Jihad Muhammad remix) – 201 Records

This will be a future House classic. Here in Baltimore every DJ is playing this tune. Kudos to Jihad Muhammad for his more peak hour remix.

6 Louie Vega – Another Day In My Life – Nervous Records

Louie Vega is always a solid bet, this is a HOT tune for the summer!

7 Dezaray Dawn Kai Alce – The Real Deal (Kai remix) – Makin Moves

Kai Delivers a smoking mix and a great song. This is one of my favourites right now from Atlanta based Kai Alce.

8 Ann Nesby – Turn It Up – Quantize Recordings

Ann Nesby is at her best on this tune. I love the energy from the vocal performance and the killer remix from my lil’ brother DJ Spen and Gary Hudgins.

9 Ten City That’s The Way Love Is (Louie Vega remix) – Ultra Records

Ten City are Back!!! Love the first single ‘Be Free’ and now the new remix of ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ from Louie Vega is slamming!!

10 David Morales – Gingerbread Man – Diridim Records

My brother David Morales delivers an instrumental jam that calls to mind the Cuban and Latin influences with an organ solo that drives the dance floor into a frenzy.
