Miami 2012 – Sebastien Drums

The Drums set to fly at WMC

We know that the WMC is more about profile and the party rather than business deals, is it the most important date on the dance calendar still?

“I think its one of the best, cause there is a special atmosphere in miami every year. all the people are waiting for this miami week. it´s a mix between crazy nights, pool partys , holidays, meetings some djs etc. i love it 🙂

As thousands of next generation clubbers descend on the big events, do you feel the spirit of house music is being lost to a crowd looking for that instant anthem hit?

“I dont think so ’cause every year we can see a mix between the youngest people and the older ones who really appreciate house music period. Just have a look at the Defected parties. it´s only house music and the crowd is totally crazy about listening to new house music and classics as well. But on the other side, some of the next generation clubbers are going out and they only seem to look for the next big hit from the big producers. Once they discover their big hit they start spreading the word via all the social communities.”

Have you had to change your musical direction in the last year?

“Not particulary. For 10 years I have beeb a big fan of the French Touch sound like Daft Punk, Phunky Data, Cassius and I always try to have a house groove in my tracks. The music is changing a lot at the moment, but you have to find your own style and trying to keep your sound still “phat”! And my sound is modern house!”

Is Miami losing it’s trademark cool and sexy house music vibe?

“Maybe a little bit, ’cause the music has going through a lot of changes over the last years…since the arrival of the electronic music movement. Now all the labels want to have their own party in Miami and show what kind of music they have… and that music does not always have the sexy house music vibe.”

What are your thoughts on the Dennis Ferrer ‘Mansion’ Miami club story – he was basically kicked off the decks for not playing commercial enough…

“That’s crazy and totally unbelievable. Dennis Ferrer is a brilliant house DJ and everybody knows this. You know what kind of sound you will get when you book Dennis Ferrer.”

The party you looking forward to the most?

“Defintely the Stealth party with Roger Sanchez at The Fontainebleau on March 21st as well the Ministry of Sound party.”

What are your Buzz tracks for WMC 2012?

“A track called Qulinez : Troll out on Size records, the new record from my French friend Norman Doray : Leo, and also my new single just released on Spinnin Records with Mitch Crown called ‘Fly Again.”

What are your thoughts on the IMS in Ibiza? Will you be attending?

“I’ve never been to this one, but I hear good things about it and I wanna check it out this summer. I heard it´s great for business as well – just like ADE in Amsterdam.”
