Back To Mine with Xenia Ghali

1. Trigger Hippie – Morcheeba – China Records

One of the tracks that defined my years in college. Everything ranging from the vocal to the sound design captivates me. I went through a huge trip hop phase and this was by far at the top of the list.

2. Fantasy – Alina Baraz – Ultra Records

THE sonic experience. Enough said. If you haven’t already heard it, you should! I promise it will take you on a journey.

3. Celebration – Toyboy & Robin ft Tony Blaize – Big Beat Records Inc for United States, WEA Internation Inc for the world outside of the United States.

It’s incredibly musical, it has absolutely gorgeous layering and the drop… it has that YES moment. The 80s style bass is absolutely perfect and so different to what you would typically expect. In addition, the vocal performance is outstanding.

4. Flower – Moby – Little Idiot

This track was a massive obsession of mine growing up. I love Moby and Flower was one of my favourite tracks of his. The way he uses loops is incredible and the way that he constantly evolves the track is even more incredible.

5. Sir Duke – Stevie Wonder – Motown Record Company L.P.

For me Stevie Wonder is one of the masters of songwriting. His use of harmony, his chord progressions and his lyrical content is studied by aspiring musicians worldwide. Sir Duke has always been one of my favourite Stevie Wonder songs of all time. It’s probably because I studied it so much too!

6. Chameleon – Herbie Hancock – Sony Music Entertainment

THE BASS. It rocked my world the first time I heard it and it still does. What a funky track!

7. Sinnerman – Felix Da Housecat (Heavenly House Mix) – The Verve Music Group

Every time I listen to this track I get the chills. The piano (which is my main instrument) makes my heart sing, Nina Simone’s vocals are magical and the track is just absolutely gorgeous. I think Felix Da Housecat did an incredible job remixing the original.

8. Out of Space – The Prodigy – XL Recordings

It’s completely and utterly insane, and that’s exactly why I love it. I have yet to discover a track that makes me feel the adrenaline rush that this one makes me feel. I am a huge Prodigy fan but ‘Outta Space’ is on a whole other level for me.

9. Get Off – The Dandy Warhols – Capitol Records

When I was in high school I went through a huge alternative rock phase. That was when I taught myself the guitar and the drums and formed a band. The Dandy Warhols were and still are one of my favourite bands of all time. I used to jam out to Get Off every single day, while dreaming of being a ‘rockstar’. I never realised what the lyrics meant entirely till later on, which makes this quite funny, but in any case I still love it!

10. We Are Your Friends – Justice – Virgin

I am a huge French Electronica fan and when Justice released ‘We Are Your Friends’ I got hooked. I actually saw them at Terminal 8 years later in New York and it was by far one of the best concerts of my life. It is actually a remix of Simian’s track ‘Never Be Alone’.
